Our friends arrived just before school finished up for an extra long (3 week!) Easter break! The girls were very excited to see Aunt Manda, Uncle Dave, Bella and Logan! We tried to fight off their jet lag by exploring Cheltenham before picking Riley up from school. We coudn't keep Logan from napping but the girls found the Wishing Fish Clock in the Regent Arcade endlessly entertaining.
Happy to see each other!
Waiting for the fish to blow bubbles at half past!
Lyla and Bella leading the way!
The next day Riley headed off to school for a half day and then we braved the rain to head to Gloucester Cathedral. Even though the cathedral is only 15 minutes away from our house, this was our first visit. We saved this visit especially for Aunt Manda because, not only is the church beautiful, but it was used to film many scenes from Harry Potter Chamber of Secrets! The kids behaved pretty well during a walking tour, where we saw the burial site of King Edward II and learned about the Coronation of King Henry III in 1216.
Posing in the rain!
Pretty impressive
All smiles!
In case you're not an avid Harry Pottery fan like Aunt Manda, check out the Harry Potter clip below to see one scene that was filmed in Gloucester Cathedral!
Next we hit up the nearby shop, The Tailor of Gloucester, whose inside has been remodeled to match the illustrations from Beatrix Potter's third book. It is said that Beatrix Potter was visiting her cousins in Gloucester and overheard a story about a young tailor who claimed that fairies sewed for him. She later used that story as inspiration for The Tailor of Gloucester, which features magical mice who help the tailor get ready for the mayor's wedding.

Next up it was time to get out of the rain so we stopped for some tea and indoor play action for the kids before heading to dinner at Zizzi's, an Italian restaurant housed in an old church in Cheltenham. Not quite Friendly's but the kids approved. ( :
